This creative work was used as the logo of the CABE (California Association for Bilingual Education) conference 2019. I attended this conference which is tailored to educators and administration in bilingual or multilingual contexts. The author of this art piece is Sandra Silberzweig who has many similar styles of work pictured at her website: https://sandra-silberzweig.pixels.com/
While I am unsure as to why the conference chose this image, I can imagine why this image depicts the bilingual individual. Speaking two or more languages tends naturally become part of our identity and culture. It is lively, full of energy, an additional means to connect with the world around us. These are all of these indicate a sense of beauty of the bilingual brain.

The song shown in the video “Nat King Cole L-O-V-E Multilingual Version w/ Lyrics and Translation” is one that uses English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Japanese. This song is about love and how each letter of the word “love” is has a phrase that he sings to show how he loves the person he is singing to. What is extraordinary about this song is that it is multilingual and shows international love. While he does not speak each language perfectly, he is spreading the love in various languages.
Song Lyrics:
L is for the way you look at me O is for the only one I see V is very very extraordinary E is even more than anyone that you adore
So che non ho nulla da desiderare ancora, Perche per me tu sei la sola donna mondiale
Loveは世界の言葉 (Love wa sekai no kotoba) Loveは二人の宝 (Love wa futari no takara) 愛し合えば明日も明るい (Ai shi aeba ashita mo akarui)
Love, love you love, I love you.
I choose this song to answer my guiding question since not only does it use two languages, but comes to show how multiple languages can work together in smooth manner. I feel this is a representation of how the brain works in that it can take in multiple languages, and it comes to show that being able to have multiple languages allows to not only spread “love” but also any message we want to communicate. Communicating is a huge benefit of being bilingual or multilingual.

The song featured in the YouTube video “Prince Royce – Stand By Me (Music Video)” is one that uses both English and Spanish lyrics. This song is about the singer asking his “darling” to stand by him. That while the mountains or sky falls, he will not worry because he knows she will be there. He says that next to her, he won’t cry because he knows she will stand by his side.
Song Lyrics:
When the night, has come and the land is dark Y la luna es la luz que brilla ante mi; Miedo no, no tendre;, oh I won’t, no me asustare Just as long as you stand, stand by me
And darling, darling stand by me oh stand by me Oh stand, junto a mi, junto a mi;
Y aunque las montanas o el cielo caiga No voy a preocuparme porque se Que tu estas, junto a mi No llorare , no llorare oh, I won’t shed a tear Porque se, que tu estas junto a mi
Oh stand, stand by me, stand by me
That’s class right there And darling, darling stand by me oh stand by me Oh stand, junto a mi;, junto a mi; And darling, darling stand by me oh stand by me Oh stand, junto a mi;, junto a mi;
Come on,swag,too strong,whats my name,Royce And darling, darling stand by me oh stand by me Oh stand, junto a mi;, junto a mi
I have chosen this song because it is sang in Both English and Spanish. The languages work together peacefully and fluidly. They seem to both be one language and they convey similar messages. In this example of a song, I feel that language was used and intertwined beautifully. This helps me answer my guiding questions as I can see that language is not really divided as previous studies had thought, that they work together with similar mental connections.
